L’Escargots UK is the continuation and expansion of Capital Snails, founded by George Grant in 2016 after years of research, education, and experimentation. What began as a bold idea during the financial crisis – a London cabbie’s dream of running his own farm – has grown into one of the UK’s leading distributers of edible snails (Helix Aspersa, also known as Petit Gris).

Our farming methods are based on the traditional French model. From secure, climate‑controlled breeding and storage rooms to closed‑type polytunnel parks, every detail is carefully managed. We use the renowned French fattening style and provide our snails with a precise vegetarian diet, complemented by Helinove cereal feed –  considered the best in Europe. The result is plump, juicy escargot of exceptional quality, raised with care and respect for animal welfare at every stage.

As demand for our snails grew, so did our farm. The introduction of Billy Crothers and Mark Taylor brought new energy, expertise, and harmony to the business, helping us expand production and strengthen our reputation. Today, L’Escargots UK is not only a farm but also a trusted advisor to new snail farmers, supplying them with feeds and materials to help them succeed.

We work closely with established European farms in France, Spain, Greece, and Portugal, representing their unique products in the UK market. Recently, we became the exclusive UK and Ireland distributers of Maison Royer, France’s leading bio‑organic skincare company. Their cosmetics, made from pure snail slime extract, bring the natural benefits of snails into the world of beauty and wellness.
